It's been a long time since the last update, so here goes... Developers have discovered a number of hidden features in Apple's iPhone 2.2 firmware update including 461 new emoji icons (Japanese emoticons), evidence of support for Google Maps Street View, and the ability to disable the auto-correct feature when typing. Of particular interest is the possible support for Google Maps Street View, which up until now was the exclusive domain of smartphones running Google's Android OS (e.g. T-Mobile's G1 handset).

Interesting article about the upcoming iPhone 2.0 software release coming in June '08. The update will incorporate several cool new features including support for push email via Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync, a Cisco IPSec VPN client, an AIM client, and an SDK for developing custom third-party applications. In addition, the update will allow the iPhone to view Word, Excel, and PowerPoint documents, and will include the ability to mass delete and move email messages (a feature that is sorely lacking in the current version).

Time to sync your iPhone. A new software update (version 1.1.4) is now available. Apple isn't saying much about what has changed in the new release other than to say that it fixes several bugs.
