Can you defeat Chester, or will he put you in your place? Participate in a computer vs. human collective chess match where the community challenges Chester.
So you think you're man (or woman) enough to take on Chester? Well, after numerous losses over time, I've decided that I'm not. That's why I created this community. I was given Chester as a Christmas present back when I was in high school. For an amatuer chess player like me, Chester has always proven a more than adequate opponent. Sure I've beaten Chester on the really easy settings, but as soon as I start upping the difficulty level, Chester delivers a well-targeted blow to the chess ego. Now, I'm not a bad chess player, but I'm not great by any means. So, I decided to enlist the help of other amatuer players with one goal in mind... to take Chester down.
Here's how it works... I'll start a game with Chester, and post his first move. Then, I'll create a community poll with my top 3-4 replies. (If you have suggestions on additional moves, feel free to shoot me a message.) Once the community has reached a consensus, I will move for the human collective, post Chester's reply, and then repeat the process. The current board is included in the upper right corner.rnrnJust in case you're not familiar with Chester Chess Challenger (as I suspect most of you aren't), Chester is an electronic chess board (model 6120) manufactured by Fidelity Electronics International (http://www.fidelityelectronicsinternational.com/). Chester has a 300 word vocabulary that, according to the manufacturer, "can teach, demonstrate, assist, tease, and amuse." Mostly though, I think he's programmed to taunt. Like other electronic chess boards, Chester includes several difficulty settings from "beyond most casual players" to "can only be beaten by a grandmaster". I have included photos of Chester in the photo section of the community.
This community isn't limited to chess amatuers. If you are a highly skilled chess player, feel free to share you knowledge with the rest of the group.
